A production company connected to longtime comedian and actor Kenan Thompson is now part of a California court fight over an entertainment investment deal.
Shwin Productions LLC filed a civil complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court against Artists for Artists DE LLC and John Ryan Jr., alleging the company did not meet obligations tied to a binding investment agreement.
Artists for Artists, also known as AFA, is the entertainment production company co-founded by Thompson and Ryan. Thompson is not named as a defendant in the lawsuit.
The case centers on an agreement that Shwin Productions says was entered into in August 2025. In the complaint, Shwin Productions alleges it invested more than $583,000 in AFA and later sought financial records connected to that investment.
The plaintiff claims those records were not provided. The filing lists financial statements, project accounting records, cap table information, member reports, and other company records among the materials Shwin Productions says it was entitled to receive under the agreement.
One project mentioned in the lawsuit is Good Sports. Shwin Productions alleges that AFA generated revenue from projects developed during the investment period, including Good Sports, but did not distribute revenue shares the plaintiff claims were required under the agreement.
The complaint states that Shwin Productions estimates at least $240,000 may be owed in connection with Good Sports. The plaintiff also alleges the total amount cannot be determined without a full accounting of AFA’s records.
The lawsuit also includes claims connected to statements allegedly made during disputes over financial disclosures. Shwin Productions alleges those statements harmed business relationships and prospective entertainment investment opportunities, including opportunities connected to Range Media Partners and other entertainment industry ventures.
The complaint asserts claims for breach of contract, accounting, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, defamation, and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage.
Shwin Productions is asking the court for damages, recovery of allegedly unpaid revenue shares, a court ordered accounting, and other relief.
The lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles under Case No. 26VECV03619.
The allegations are claims made by Shwin Productions. The defendants have not yet filed a response in court, and no court has ruled on the merits of the claims.
