Martin Kuiper Reflects on Love and Timing with New Single “Still I Promise”

Martin Kuiper continues the rollout of his upcoming rock album Prison Of Modesty with “Still I Promise,” a melodic new single that explores the challenges of committing to love while still working through personal struggles. Following the success of “So You Left Me With A Smile,” the track serves as the sixth single from the album and highlights Kuiper’s signature combination of heartfelt storytelling, memorable hooks, and classic rock influences.

A Rock Song Rooted in Honest Emotion

Rather than telling a simple love story, “Still I Promise” focuses on a man who genuinely wants a future with someone but recognizes he must first confront his own emotional burdens. Through imagery of mountains, valleys, and a ship caught in a storm, Kuiper paints a picture of uncertainty while holding onto hope.

“The song is about how difficult it can be to enter a new relationship when you still have things to sort out yourself,” Kuiper says. “An honest lyric in a catchy song with a fantastic surf guitar solo and delightful melodies.”

Although the story is relatable, it also draws from Kuiper’s own experiences. He admits the early days of his relationship with his longtime partner were not without challenges, giving the song an added layer of authenticity without making it purely autobiographical.

Classic Influences Shape a Modern Rock Sound

Kuiper remembers writing the song’s first verse and chord progression in his son’s bedroom in Amsterdam before realizing the chorus had something special. As the recording sessions for Prison Of Modesty continued, the track evolved into one of the album’s standout moments.

“I wrote the chord progression and the first verse quite quickly,” Kuiper recalls. “When I came up with the melody for the chorus, I knew that Still I Promise had something special.”

Musically, the single blends driving rock with rich vocal harmonies inspired by artists such as The Beatles and The Beach Boys. A surf-style guitar solo adds an unexpected twist, echoing the storm imagery woven throughout the lyrics and giving the song an energetic lift.

The release also arrives with Kuiper’s first lyric video featuring the singer himself on camera. While he jokes that acting is outside his comfort zone, the visual gives listeners another way to connect with the song’s message.

Since releasing his first music in 2023 at the age of 49, Kuiper has steadily built an impressive catalog that includes To Feel Is To Believe, To Hear Is To Believe, and Dreaming Of Sea Of Time. With Prison Of Modesty set to arrive in September, “Still I Promise” offers another glimpse into an artist who continues to pair thoughtful songwriting with timeless rock melodies.
